Dr Ratan Kumar Roy

Ratan Kumar Roy, PhD is Assistant Professor of the School of General Education at BRAC University, Dhaka. He worked as a Research fellow at the Centre for Culture, Media & Governance, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, India. He was trained in Anthropology and Sociology at the University of Dhaka and South Asian University, and has worked as a television journalist in Bangladesh. He was a Residency Fellow at Asia Culture Centre, Republic of Korea in 2018 and is a member of Early Career Scholars Advisory Committee of International Visual Sociology Association.

He has authored many articles in journals and chapters in books. He is co-editor of UNESCO-SWAN reports on the Status of Women in Media in South Asia (2020, Vol 1 and Vol 2). He has also made documentary films and feature stories for television. His major publications include: Television in Bangladesh – News and Audiences (Routledge 2021), Korean Wave in South Asia- Transcultural Flow, Fandom and Identity (Palgrave MacMillan 2022) and Seeing South Asia: Visuals Beyond Borders (co-editor, Routledge 2022).

He has also established a global research platform for scholars across the world in Dhaka known as International Research Center at SIMEC Institute of Technology.
